There is a great amount of emphasis placed on video and audio at events. It is important to showcase visuals clearly and to hear what content presenters share. However, as important as these two aspects are, lighting is another key aspect.
Lighting design or atmospheric lighting plays a big role in not only making your presenters visible but can also set the tone for your event with using a multitude of fixtures such as titan tubes, mac moving lights, lekos and more.
Before we get into fixtures and different types of lights, let’s discuss the importance of having a lighting designer brought into the planning phase. A lighting designer is an artist, but they paint with lights! This is where you as a team can get creative with your corporate or conference branding colours and set the tone for your opening keynote, afternoon panel, awards ceremony, award recipient walk on-stage, closing keynote, and more. There are three main fixtures used in atmospheric lighting that you can consider for your next event.
Leko Fixtures
When your presenter is ready to take the stage, you may notice the stage will go bright as the presenter makes his way up the steps on to the stage. This is called a stage wash and is created by using multiple leko fixtures with various lens types, focuses, and gates, to create the perfect and evenly distributed stage wash. When using a lighting board with lekos we can create scenes (light up specific areas of the stage) such as a stage wash, podium wash, or your photo opp when your award recipient is standing centre stage for the perfect photo. Such fixtures ensure event moment is highlighted!
Color Force Fixtures
If you are looking for a more cost effective solution to add extra flare to your event, colour force fixtures are a great choice. This is a RGBW light which means you can mix all three primary colours. Whether you are looking for a blue versus a cyan, a magenta versus a purple, colors can easily be customized. These lights come in a 12”, 24”, 36” and 72” length, which make them a versatile solution to light up around the room, conference banners, stage steps and the red carpet. Alternative styles of this light fixture are even battery powered and water proof making them a great fixture to use if you do not have power outlets or would like to use them outdoors.
Mac Fixtures
Have you ever been to an awards show and everyone is clapping, the music is loud, and all these lights are moving; creating such a key moment for that person to accept his award in front of all these people? This effect is created using mac fixtures. These moving lights are also know as intelligent lighting. They come in a variety of different fixtures which are based on brightness and beam patterns which can be used with titan tubes or gobos to display on stage, guide guests through your event, create custom patterns on the ceiling or enhance specific areas.
Intelligent lighting can be programmed to move in specific patterns at the push of a button and are also RGBW compatible so we can set them to a variety of colors or even changing colors. Coupled with a hazer the beam on these lights can become very visible and completely changes the intensity of the lighting. For a more festive event, you can even add fog and sparkler lights.
